Koninklijk Entrepot - Antwerp
This is the first residential building in the former port of Antwerp where a transition successfully created an industrial character to a high-quality living environment. The design for the residential building refers to the old warehouse architecture with its loading dock, flexible layout and large glass surfaces. It has a clear and distinguished face to the water and a more modest brick façade to the courtside. The building posses a metropolitan character with robust floor plans and apartments with generous views of the newly built marina. The plinth houses various small-scale commercial spaces, creating a pleasant urban space around the building.
The hook-shaped floor plan of the warehouse building creates a spatial variety that does justice to the mixed character of the complex. While the court on the front side with park emphasizes the residential aspect of the building, the metropolitan character is underlined by the promenade lined with trees and the - in Belgian bluestone - commercial base.
